Job Description:

Responsible and accountable for the direct consumer loan underwriting and processing teams. Ensure staff is performing to expectations of production goals and service levels. Mentoring and coaching staff to peak performance in order to meet/exceed department goals. Managing the daily activities of the Consumer Lending (Direct) teams to ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal procedures and policies.

  • Effectively lead and supervise consumer lending underwriters and processors including assisting with hiring, training, annual reviews, schedules and other administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Monitor underwriter and processing queues to ensure the team is meeting or exceeding service level expectations.
  • Work with department leaders to develop processes and procedures to improve lending growth and member satisfaction.
  • Partner with other departments to identify and remedy employee service gaps.
  • Seek to continually improve the user experience (team member and member) through the use of technology and efficient processes.
  • Work closely with the VP of Consumer Lending to ensure production goals are achieved by process changes and staff accountability.
  • Partner with RSS leadership to support and promote company-wide objectives.
  • Assist in developing and adherence of Consumer Lending operational procedures for Underwriters and Processors.
  • Foster a positive and engaging work environment for each team member by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth.
  • Use coaching sessions as the primary tool for improving staff performance by holding regular coaching sessions and documenting results to be provided to VP of Consumer Lending.
  • Provide decisions on complex consumer loan applications requests requiring higher loan authority.
  • Ensure all lending activities are conducted within the policies and procedures of the Credit Union.
  • Responsible for upholding all credit union ethical standards.
  • Represents the credit union in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Perform other essential job functions as required or assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Required Education:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of financial services experience including applicable industry regulations.
  • Minimum 5 years management experience managing a team of 10+ staff.
  • Extensive experience underwriting loans and expediting loan approval process.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead both large and small teams while creating a strong team environment.
  • Extensive experience analyzing tax returns.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a change agent driving both strategic and operational results while motivating team and maintaining high morale within the division.
